Therapeutic techniques utilized by our Counsellors

In a therapy session for a child or teen, Counsellors use a variety of evidence-based techniques tailored to their unique needs and challenges. These may include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help identify and reframe negative thought patterns, play therapy to create a comfortable environment for younger children to express emotions, and mindfulness strategies to improve focus and emotional regulation. For social and communication skill-building, techniques such as role-playing or social stories are often utilized. Attachment-based interventions may also be used to strengthen relationships with caregivers, while behavioral therapy focuses on addressing specific behaviors through positive reinforcement and structured strategies. Each session is designed to meet the child where they are and provide tools that empower them to thrive in their daily life.
When to seek out counselling support for your child?

Frequent sadness or signs of depression
-
Difficulty focusing, impulsivity, or hyperactivity (possible signs of ADHD)

Low self-esteem or lack of confidence
-
Trouble managing transitions or adapting to changes in routine
-
Struggles with learning or academic performance
If these behaviors persist or significantly impact your child’s daily life and well-being, pediatric psychology services can provide the professional support and tools they need to overcome challenges and thrive.
